As for me? 
My podcasting story is a LOT different…
For years I worked for a non-profit organization and was desperate to help people. 

I'd had a pretty turbulent upbringing. 

By the age of 17, I was already on my 4th arrest, suspended from school, and an all-around handful. 

I was still holding onto a part-time job by the skin of my teeth. 

One day, my boss asked me what my plans for college were, and I almost laughed in her face. By that point, I'd written myself off entirely.

My reaction made her want to mentor me. 

I guess she saw something, and was ready to drag it out of me kicking and screaming if she had to! 

Her name was Jamie, and she's responsible for me being here talking to you today. 

She was there through all the trouble I got myself in…

...and all the triumphs! 

Jamie showed me how much a mentor, and positive influence one person can be on another. 

After I graduated college - thanks to her - I was determined to help people in the same way as Jamie had helped me. 

That’s when I became an advocate for a huge non-profit organization and the voice of hundreds of youths. 

I had so much to say, but somehow I couldn't get it to translate to the masses. 

That was until 2017.
It was the worst year of my life, but also the best thing that ever happened to me
I was 6 months pregnant when I got rushed into hospital with a rare condition. It meant my son had to be forced into the world, or I would become fatally ill. 

He was born just 1 lb. and 15 oz. 

Because he was born so early, he had a whole host of health problems, so critical I couldn't hold him for 12 days. 

In total, he spent 82 days in the NICU. 

My partner and I's lives got turned upside down. We spent every night staring at our son to make sure he was breathing. He was rigged up to a jungle of wires, and tubes in a stale plastic box, while his brand new cot lay untouched at home. 

During that time, we were faced with a constant look of pity, and "I don't knows" from medical professionals. 

To cut a long, hard, agonizing story short - my baby boy defeated all the odds, and finally got discharged!  

In that whole time, and for a long time afterward, I kept thinking about other people going through struggles that were also out of their control. 

I wondered how many people saw those struggles as not something to break them…

But, something to build them into better versions of themselves?
It was then that I created "The Stranded Podcast"
I wanted to help people embrace their "stuck phase" and come out of the other side stronger, by sharing my own story and experiences. 

I wanted to be a mentor of sorts, and be someone to listen to, learn from, and grow because of. 

In no time at all, I built a genuine connection with my audience, who came back week after week. 

The level of trust I had, meant I could use affiliate links, secure sponsorships services, and even sell my own services! 

My show allowed me to scale intimacy quickly, without losing touch, OR losing trust.

It was something I'd never found on social media…

Or any other outlet for that matter. 

I didn’t feel like I was selling myself short, or taking advantage of my audience. It purely felt like one friend, giving advice and help to another when they were asking for it! 

My audience began to grow, and grow until I too had 40,000 downloads. 

It allowed me to start a coaching, and consulting company, leave my corporate job and mentor/help people in the way I'd always wanted! 

Since then, I've launched [X] other successful podcasts called [NAMES]. 

So what does that tell you? 

Podcasts can BOTH transform a passion into a profession, AND a profession into a powerhouse!
